Inclusion

All students have the right to be happy at school and free from any form of intimidation. We have a zero tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour, bullying or any form of discrimination. Close monitoring of students enables us to rapidly identify any issues and we encourage our students to tell us if they are unhappy. We train staff to help students to resolve relationship difficulties and to mediate in disagreements using a very effective restorative justice system.

In cases where the Academy is concerned that a student is being neglected or is subject to some form of physical or emotional abuse then it will follow Cumbria County Council’s child protection procedures and contact Children’s Services.

Inclusion at RRMA means that all students are made to feel that they belong. The provision aims to increase participation in learning by building relationships, removing barriers and reducing exclusion.

Dedicated staff recognise that all students may require support at some point in their school career, be it emotional, social or academic.  Our Inclusion area provides a safe, secure, nurturing environment in which students are encouraged to reach their full potential.

The specialist SEN team are committed to raising awareness and identifying and implementing tailored support packages thus our students are supported in the best possible way.  Such packages may include literacy and numeracy interventions (Maths Recovery and Toe By Toe Spelling), in class support for students who are granted additional support in school and 1:1 nurturing sessions to tackle issues such as anger, anxiety and self-esteem.  Our team also support students with homework, organisational skills, social awareness skills and developing student’s communication skills.  We also have a quiet space for students at break and lunch times; this is where a small group of students, from all year groups, come to spend their social times.
