The Art Department at Morton Academy provides students with high-quality challenging education, inspiring in students a curiosity and fascination of the arts. Teaching equips students with knowledge and skills relating to a wide range of artists, materials, tools, techniques and processes.
Students follow a varied curriculum at KS3 (see attached curriculum map) to prepare them for GCSE Art. At KS4 pupils have the opportunity to study the Edexcel GCSE Fine Art course where they receive expert tuition and guidance and will have the opportunity to explore their own ideas. GCSE Fine Art is the perfect stepping stone to A-Level Art, BTEC Art and Design or for any pupils wanting to work in the creative industries.
The development of cultural capital is an integral part of the Art curriculum at Morton Academy. Our carefully selected topics provide pupils with insights into cultural, social and economic diversity.
For example, we study a range of artists and cultures from around the world and from a variety of time periods. We explore the context and meaning of the work, its legacy and its impact on the modern world.
Careers education is an integral part of the Art curriculum. In Key Stage 3, all topics have a careers element embedded, this is usually in the form of a case study of a professional working in a particular field of the creative industries. Before pupils take their options in Year 9, we endeavour to inform and educate our pupils on the creative industries, the jobs available and the steps needed to achieve career goals.
