Vision and Ethos

Our student centred, dynamic and exciting learning environment supports the highest standards in academic, vocational and personal achievements so that all our students surpass their individual potential and are prepared for adult and working life in the 21st Century.

We encourage our students to be aspirational and to make informed decisions about their path in life by providing a supportive and personalised structure for them to develop within. We take time to know each of our students and through our community ethos are able to build strong relationships which positively impact on the future of our students. Achievement and positive attitudes are celebrated and rewarded. We strive to create a happy, harmonious and hard-working Academy in which all students are able to develop and achieve.

All of our staff at the Academy share in the vision and believe that each individual child has the right to be the best version of themselves they can be. We do this by creating quality teaching and learning, positive life experiences, a fair and firm approach to discipline and a wide range of enrichment opportunities so that all children can experience success. The staff share a dedication and commitment to motivate and inspire students to achieve beyond their expectations. We ensure our staff have access to a varied and comprehensive professional development programme to enable us to share good practise, celebrate outstanding teaching achievements and ensure the best in terms of quality of teaching and learning for the students.

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development (SMSC)

Morton Academy has a very clear ethos in terms of the way in which we treat ourselves and each other. We aim to ensure:

  • That everyone connected with the Academy is aware of our values and principles.
  • A consistent approach to the delivery of SMSC issues through the curriculum and the general life of the Academy. 
  • That we offer positive and realistic examples and role models for our students to follow.
  • That all subject areas provide opportunities to contribute to the personal development of the students.
  • Students take responsibility for their behaviour and impact on others in and out of the classroom.
  • Students recognise the value and richness of the cultural diversity in Britain by giving them opportunities to meet different people, visit different places and discuss different belief structures and faiths.
  • Issues regarding extremist views must not be limited to one or two curriculum areas but must be studied in all areas of the
  • Academy in order to enhance understanding, foster tolerance and encourage respect.
  • E schemes develop an understanding of the ‘broadly Christian’ nature of British society, as well as offering an insight into other religions and cultures in contemporary Britain. 
  • Students are encouraged to ask and answer questions in RE and not be afraid to touch on controversial issues.

The Academy offers students a variety of leadership opportunities. Examples of this can be seen through ‘student voice’ school council and the sports ambassador programme. Representatives for these bodies, as well as roles of Head Boy and Head Girl, are elected by an application and interview process. Democracy in action within the life of the school is a superb promotion of British Values.
