Are you interested in working with children? Do you want to learn about how best to support their development and meet their needs? This course is designed to enable young people to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work in a range of different child care settings.
Unit 1: An introduction to working with children 0-5 years
This includes understanding the different settings for child care, the role and responsibilities of the child care provider and the range of learning styles.
Unit 2: Development and wellbeing 0-5 years
This includes the pattern of development for different age ranges, understanding the social and emotional needs of children and recognizing the care needs for a range of children.
Unit 3: Child care and Development 0-5 years
One multiple choice externally assessed examination at the end of Year 11.
This qualification provides the opportunity to gain a vocational qualification that gives a basic introduction to the sector. It has been designed to meet the needs of learners from the age of 14 years. It includes the knowledge and understanding of child development and well-being necessary for working with children in a variety of settings. It is aimed at a range of learners who wish to be introduced to childcare and development for children aged 0-5 years. It also gives learners an insight into their preferred learning styles and assists in developing their ability to study.
It is accessible to all abilities and results in one multiple choice examination at the end of two years. This, alongside the two internally assessed units of work, will be evidence for grading. This course is the equivalent of one GCSE grade A*-D.
