Learning Quests

We ensure that our students have a broad and balanced curriculum that will prepare them for a successful future. We believe also that students should be fully engaged in their learning, taking account of their natural abilities and talents as well as looking to their future working lives. We, therefore, personalise the curriculum into an individual learning journey, or Learning Quest.

Our Learning Quests are engaging and fun. All our lessons are planned to accelerate students learning, covering contemporary topics set in real life situations. Our learning is active and innovative. We encourage students to develop good learning skills and habits, so that they can become creative thinkers and reflective learners. We challenge students to develop their own learning independently, extending their own knowledge and skills to the highest level. Our students learn from many sources and in many ways. We use activities which best suits the students or the learning need.

Making this learning journey as interesting as possible is very important to us. Our Quests frequently include learning outside the classrooms, Forest Schools, Outward Bound, community learning and work experience in order to develop the whole child and ensure that every student has the opportunity to experience and develop personally, mentally, emotionally and globally.

The Academy is proud of how we personalise our learning to ensure that students are given the opportunity to achieve regardless of any Additional Need and we strive to ensure that each student has individual success. This includes accelerated learning options for gifted and talented pupils from Year 8 to post-16 so that they can specialise and gain accreditation, where appropriate. We also offer a strong programme of support for students with specific learning difficulties or with English as their second Language.The Academy provides a flexible and accessible physical environment to cater for a range of special educational needs supported by a wealth of staff expertise.
