New Horizons in Teaching and Learning

visionAt the Richard Rose Morton Academy we prepare our students for adult and working life in the 21st century. Our student centred, dynamic and exciting learning environment supports the highest standards in academic, vocational and personal achievements so that all our students surpass their individual potential. Our drive, passion and enthusiasm is infectious, as a result all our students believe that, with us, there is no limit to what they can achieve – ‘Improving my personal best’ is everyone’s goal.

We recognise that the Academy’s success is rooted in the quality of relationships throughout the learning community. Our main focus is to develop each student's respect for each other and for learning, and to this end we have developed a totally new approach towards extended education. We have a full range of out-of-hours learning and leisure activities provided both on the Academy site, at other city centre sites and neighbourhood centres. The Academy works in partnership with parents, carers and families, the mainstay of a child’s life, to support achievement and raise aspirations.

The Academy will move into a brand new, purpose-built and furnished building in 2011, but until then our impressive range of facilities includes:vision2

  • Classroom spaces designed to take advantage of the latest techniques and teaching aids
  • Advanced ICT suites, laboratories and workshops with industry standard equipment

  • A wide range of exciting extracurricular and support services to enhance and extend the curriculum

callout7The Richard Rose Morton Academy is an exciting and inspiring place to learn. The development of literacy and numeracy are key features of our curriculum. We target support for Year 7 in these subjects that assists transition from primary school and ensure that students achieve the best results in Year 11 and 13. Enterprise and financial capability are similarly important cross cutting themes as students need to be are aware of the power of risk and reward so that they can make reasoned value judgements - essential skills for life.

The Academy’s Maths and Arts specialisms mean that, while offering a varied and balanced curriculum, we emphasise these subject skills across the curriculum and students benefit from specialist teaching as well as from the broad academic and vocational curriculum.

All our staff share our vision. They work with dedication and commitment to motivate and inspire students to achieve the highest possible results. High expectations supported by excellent resources, leading edge technology in our new building and expert teaching from well-qualified staff, ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve their potential. Education is a lifelong process and we are committed to giving students experiences that develop the independence and flexibility necessary for a successful future.

We encourage students to think about what they are going to do next in their education, and also in life, so that they can make informed decisions at every stage of their development. We have established a structure which is both caring and firm. Anything that gets in the way of learning is not accepted. Achievement and positive attitudes are celebrated and rewarded. We strive to establish a harmonious, hard working ethos in which our students can develop and achieve.
