Developing the Western gateway to the City is a big job. Not least because of the mountain of companies and people that are needed to create the £26 million pound structure from design to finishes but also because of the significance to the community - that we are going to transform the way we deliver education in Carlisle because they deserve no less than excellence.
We are currently working with our architects BDP in the design phase and we will keep this website updated with our progress. This phase will be complete by Summer 2009. Over Summer we will start the first stage of our build by demolishing the front section of the Academy. This has been made possible by the kind offer from the County Council to vacate the buildings they use on the site so we can change them back into learning spaces and not use portable classrooms.
In September Kier construction will begin working on the new build and this should be complete in Easter 2011.
The new Academy building though is not the only investment into our community. We are working hard to fulfil the vision of our sponsor to create an holistic learning and living experience. As well as offering an outstanding learning building, we are also creating world class sporting facilities - our Sports Village - which will respond to years of demand in Carlisle for a Gymnastics Centre, a 3G football pitch, a well being centre, a home for our Cadets and working as part of the City strategy a swimming facilities.
